AUGUSTA,
Ga. -
Augusta State’s Deo Ngulela was named to the Peach Belt Conference women’s all-conference team Tuesday afternoon. The selections were announced by the league office on the eve of the PBC Tournament, which begins Wednesday afternoon at the USCA Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.
Ngulela, a two-year starter at point guard for the Lady Jaguars, led ASU to its most wins in the regular season (19-8) since the 2004 season that culminated in an Elite Eight appearance in St. Joseph, Mo.
A senior from Maputo, Mozambique, Ngulela averaged 9.2 ppg. and ranked second in the PBC in assists per game at 6.1. She also ranked among the league leaders in 3-field goal percentage (.382), free throw percentage (.744) and assist-to-turnover ratio.
Ngulela was only representative to the all-league squad for the Lady Jaguars, who clinched a share of their first Peach Belt Conference title since the 1994-95 season with Saturday’s 104-55 victory over Georgia Southwestern in the regular-season finale.
ASU battles Columbus State in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. in Aiken, S.C., on the campus of USC Aiken.
