Lady Jaguars Take Second
Junior Emilie Geury, sophomore Sarah Mooney finish among top three

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Georgia State edged host Augusta State by a single stroke Sunday in the America’s Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational presented by Administaff and Georgia Pain Specialists at Forest Hills Golf Club.

The Lady Jaguars, ranked 39th in the nation, began play Sunday morning with a two-shot lead over Georgia State. But the No. 45 Lady Panthers, on the strength of freshman Iliska Verwey’s two-under 70, tallied an eight-over 296 to overtake ASU and capture their second straight Lady Jaguar Invitational title.

Verwey finished at even-par 144, three shots ahead of ASU junior Emilie Geury (73-74) and five in front of sophomore Sarah Mooney (75-74), who closed with three straight birdies. In fact, the Lady Jags had five players post top-10 finishes. Sophomore Tamara Lucciouli (72-79), the overnight leader, tied for fourth as an individual, while junior Anna Lindeborg (76-76) tied for sixth, senior Kristen Bragg (78-75) tied for eighth and junior Mary Betancourt (79-76) tied for 11th.

Paced by Verwey’s win, the Lady Panthers had five top-10 finishers as well. Wofford, Mercer and Kennesaw State finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The Lady Jags return to action next weekend when they travel to Greenville, S.C., to compete in the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman at Furman University Golf Course.
