Lady Jags Climb To 14th
Geury tied for fourth, one shot off lead

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Augusta State carded a 307 Monday in the second round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, being contested at both Cougar Point and Oak Point Golf Clubs.

The event, featuring 215 players, is the largest women's collegiate event in the country. Of the 43 teams participating in the tournament, 21 are currently in the top 100 by Golfweek magazine.

The Lady Jaguars, paced by senior Emilie Geury, bettered their first-round effort by eight shots and improved five spots to 14th place.

Geury booked an even-par 72, the best round of the day, and is tied for fourth place at three-over 147, one shot off the lead. Freshman Julia Stalbro moved into a tie for 51st after a four-over 76 while junior Sarah Mooney turned in a five-over 77 and is tied for 39th. Junior Tamara Luccioli and senior Anna Lindeborg managed an 82 and an 85, respectively.

Miami, the first round co-leader, combined for a 305 and moved in front of co-leader East Tennessee State by a single stroke. Central Arkansas, Ole Miss and Florida rounded out the top five.

Nebraska’s Mary Kate Bird, Florida’s Jessica Yalloczky and Elisa Aoki from Central Florida are tied for the individual lead at two-over 146. ASU’s Geury, along with Central Arkansas’ Nicole Forshner, ETSU’s Sinead O’Sullivan and UCF’s Stephanie Connelly, are a single shot off the lead at three-over 147.

Playing in foursomes in Tuesday’s third and final round, ASU will be paired with Oral Roberts, Middle Tennessee and Nebraska at Cougar Point Golf Club. Play begins with a 9:15 a.m., shotgun start on both the Cougar Point and Oak Point courses.
