James Inks With Lady Jaguars
California product to join ASU Women's Golf Program

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State women’s golf coach Kevin McPherson announced Wednesday that Katherine James has signed a national letter-of-intent and agreed to join the Lady Jaguars’ program for the 2010-11 season.

James, from Bakersfield, Calif., will have two years of eligibility remaining. As a sophomore for Bakersfield (Calif.) Community College in 2009-10, she recorded five individual victories. In her two-year, junior-college career, she won a total of eight tournaments.

The 2009 Western State Conference Player-Of-The-Year, James was also named to the 2009 California All-State Golf Team and was selected the 2007 Kern County Player-Of-The-Year.

“Katherine is a true athlete who has enjoyed tremendous success in a relatively short career of competitive golf,” McPherson said. “Her work ethic and commitment to golf is second to none. I look forward to coaching her in the years to come. I have no doubt that Katherine will play a major role in the success of our program in the near future.”

The Lady Jags, who recently completed their second season under McPherson, narrowly missed an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals in 2009-10. ASU recorded five top-5 finishes, including a runnerup finish in the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in March at Forest Hills Golf Club.
