AUGUSTA,
Ga. -- Augusta State women’s golf coach Kevin McPherson announced Friday that Casey Kennedy has signed a grant-in-aid to join the Lady Jaguar golf team.
Kennedy, from Cape May, N.J., spent her freshman season as a member of the Auburn University women’s golf team. She redshirted during the 2009-10 season and will have four years eligibility remaining for the Lady Jags.
The 2007 Florida State High School Player-Of-The-Year, Kennedy won the 2007 AJGA Rhode Island Classic and the 2008 AJGA Woodward Video at Greenbrier. Last summer, she competed in the U.S. Women’s Amateur, U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Girls Junior, where she advanced to match play.
Kennedy, ranked the No. 14 recruit in the Class of 2009, tied for 47th at the 2009 ANNIKA Invitational and competed at the 2009 Rolex Tournament of Champions. She also claimed the 2007 Florida Individual State High School Championship and placed third in 2008 State Championship.
“Casey was looking for a change and we were the perfect fit,” McPherson said. “With our facilities and the support we receive for college golf in Augusta, we were just what Casey was looking for. She has a chance to step right in and make an immediate contribution as we continue to grow our program and get back to the postseason.”
The Lady Jags, who recently completed their second season under McPherson, narrowly missed an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals in 2009-10. ASU recorded five top-5 finishes, including a runnerup effort in the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in March at Forest Hills Golf Club.
