ARBOR, Mich. -- Augusta State finished seventh Sunday in the season-opening Wolverine Invitational at University of Michigan Golf Course.
With four new starters making their ASU debut this weekend, the Lady Jaguars opened the tourney with rounds of 303 and 305 Saturday for a 36-hole total of 40-over 608 and entered the final round in second place. On Sunday, ASU combined for a team total of 319.
Sophomore Natalie Wille paced the Lady Jags with a final-round, 3-over 74 and improved from 12th place into a tie for third at 12-over 225 (75-76-74).
Freshman Casey Kennedy joined Wille in the top 10, tying for seventh at 14-over 227 (74-74-79). Kirsty Rands (85), Christine Duschek-Hansen (82) and Katherine James (84) tied for 42nd, 62nd and 70th, respectively.
Florida International, the 36-hole leader, cruised to an 11-shot victory over Iowa State, with Western Michigan, Northwestern and tourney host Michigan rounding out the top five.
FIU’s Paula Hurtado claimed a 1-stroke victory over teammate Christina Marin, while Wille and Northwestern’s finished third, three shots off the pace.
The Lady Jags return to action on Sept. 26 in the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.
