AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State University’s Department of Athletics has reached a three-year agreement with a local company to serve as official title sponsor of the Lady Jaguar Invitational, ASU Director of Athletics Clint Bryant announced Wednesday, Sept. 28, during a 2:00 p.m. press conference at Forest Hills Golf Club.

The America’s Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational is scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 7-8, 2005, at Forest Hills Golf Club. A practice round and college-am will be conducted on Sunday, Nov. 6, with a junior clinic slated for Saturday, Nov. 5, at the First Tee of Augusta at 3:30 p.m.

“The securing of a title sponsorship will enable Augusta State Women’s Golf the opportunity to take this tournament to a higher level,” Bryant said. “We’re very proud of the leadership and direction of our program under Coach McCombs and we know that America’s Choice Mortgage’s participation will serve as a catalyst in reaching our tournament’s many goals.”

The second annual America’s Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational is a 36-hole, two-day event. Maryland won the inaugural event last fall, with Augusta State finishing as the runnerup. Then-freshmen Garrett Phillips and Kristen Bragg were the Lady Jaguars’ top finishers, with Phillips taking ninth and Bragg finishing 15th.

“We’re delighted to be associated with Augusta State,” said James C. Young, CEO of America’s Choice Mortgage. “The women’s golf program has made great strides in its first five years and we couldn’t think of a better way to put our resources to work but to attach our name to this event.”

The Lady Jags, in their third season under head coach Trelle McCombs, opened the 2005-06 season in fine fashion with a runnerup finish on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Sophomore Garrett Phillips captured medalist honors with a three-round total of three-under 213, her third career victory in just eight events.

“We’re excited to have America’s Choice Mortgage as our title sponsor,” McCombs said. “The three-year agreement is another example of the kind of support this area has always given to golf and especially, to our women’s program. I’m looking forward to working with Mr. and Mrs. Young and making our tournament one they will be proud to be associated with.”
