Lady Jags Earn Two Consolation Victories
Women's tennis competes at Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Championship

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State women’s tennis team picked up two consolation victories at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Championship at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.

The three-day tournament began on Friday, Oct. 14, and included squads from Georgia College and State, Newberry, Queens and USC Aiken.

The first win came from Norma Rovia, who claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Lauren Hartley of Newberry in the final round of the singles flight one consolation.

Next was Ashley Abrams, scoring a singles flight two consolation win over Isabel Kreidler of Newberry due to an injury.

In singles flight three, Jeaneen Brester made her way to the consolation semifinals, but fell to Chanelle Clare of Newberry 6-3, 6-1.

Maria Zevallos reached the final round of the singles flight four consolation bracket, but Tanea Miller of Newberry claimed the win 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles action, Rovia and Zevallos lost in the flight one quarterfinals to Powell and Rock of Queens 8-4, and Abrams and Brester made the semifinals in flight two, but fell to Davidson and McKnight of GCSU 8-3.

The Chick-Fil-A Championship marked the Lady Jaguars’ final tournament of the fall season. The tennis squad will be back on the court Feb. 1, when they take on Queens College in Charlotte, NC.
