MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- The Augusta State women’s tennis team turned in a strong showing in the Windstream Fall Championships, which wrapped up Saturday at Georgia College & State’s Centennial Center.

In the “B” singles flight, second-seeded Anna Davidsson of GCSU defeated top-seed Fernanda Chiaparini from Augusta State 6-4, 6-2 in Saturday’s title match. Davidsson had knocked off teammate Gabby Acuna 6-0, 6-1 earlier in the day in the semifinal match. Chiaparini advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over GCSU’s Sofia Intriago.

Augusta State took top honors in the “C” singles flight as Sarah Jegat defeated teammate Norma Rovira 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match.

In the “B” doubles championship match, Augusta State’s Chiaparini and Rovira rallied from a 7-4 deficit to knock off GCSU’s Davidsson and Intriago 9-7.

The Windstream Fall Championships mark the end of the fall tennis season.
