Alessandro Turchi
Agatha of Sicily Cured by Saint Peter in her Prison

Circa 1630-35
Oil on copper
Musée des Beaux-Arts, Strasbourg

This image seems to follow the tradition in which the breasts are seen to be restored by Peter and in his presence, rather than after he has vanished and Agatha has said her prayer of thanksgiving. Another painting of the same subject, done ten years later by the same painter, has the old man and the angel in the same pose but puts a full-figured Agatha in a dress.
