At the head of the bed, one of the apostles holds the ritual book for St. Peter (balding from the crown) while he sprinkles the Virgin with the aspergillum and St. Paul (balding from the forehead) prepares the censer. At the foot, the beardless figure is St. John the Evangelist. Mary's soul is represented as a baby in the arms of Christ, whose mandorla is a common feature in images of this type.
