La Candelaria

Before 1580
Clothed santo of Spanish origin
Santuario de la Virgen de la Candelaria, Puno, Peru

La Virgen de la Candelaria is the city's patron saint. Each February 2, after nine days of festivities the santo is processed through the streets.

The mother and child hold sceptres and wear crowns and cloth garments, as in most Candelarias. A pair of doves in baskets hangs from the Virgin's right wrist.
