ca. 1250-60, Abbatiale
of St. Denis
Musée National de l'Age Médiévale, Paris
This is one segment from a stone panel with episodes from the life of
St. Benedict. In Gregory's Dialogues
when St. Benedict became aware of the death of his sister St.
Scholastica he had her buried in his abbey so that "as their
souls were always one in God whiles they lived, so their bodies
continued together after their death."
