Fra Lippo Lippi
St. Lawrence Enthroned with Saints and Donors
Late 1440s
Tempera on wood, gold
ground
Metropolitan Museum of
Art, 35.31.1a-c
Instead of the usual gridiron that is St. Lawrence's attribute, the
artist has used a grid design on the low dais where the saint is seated.
The other saints
appear
to be Cosmas and Damian.
From left to right,
the
donors are Antonio, Jacopo, and Alessandro Alessandri.
