St. Gertrude the Great,
Virgin - Died 1302
Author of several mystical works,
including the Legatus
Divinae Pietatis and the Exercitia spiritualia (cache), St. Gertrude
was the first person to urge devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She
was abbess of the Cistercian abbey of Helfta, in Eisleben, Germany and
is therefore represented in her habit and with a crozier and a burning
or shining heart on her breast.
