Saint John Eudes - 1601-80

St. John Eudes, a French priest, founded the Eudists, also known as the Society of Jesus and Mary.  He and the Society promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  For this reason, his attribute is a burning heart, as on the scroll in the image at left.  He is sometimes portrayed holding both the burning heart and a crucifix.

Feast day: August 19
