Saints Peter and Paul

France, late 15th century
190 x 120 mm.
Add. MS. 11865, f. 87

According to tradition the two saints were executed in Rome on the same day, though not in the same place -- Paul by beheading (because he was a Roman citizen) and Peter by crucifixion. In the lower register we see on the right the conversion of St. Paul and on the left the "Quo vadis" story (see the Golden Legend's retelling of this story).
