Cloister of the Basilica of St. John Lateran, RomeThe statue features the three primary attributes seen in portraits of St. Lawrence: the gridiron, the palm of martyrdom, and the closed Gospel book. His liturgical vestments are unlike the dalmatics typical of portraits from the high middle ages and later, suggesting an early date for this work.
