St.
Andrew and the Seven Demons
Panel from the Thouzon
Altarpiece, ca. 1410
The
Louvre
This represents the story in the Golden Legend of the seven demons
besetting the city of Nicaea and slaying those who passed by the
city. At the citizens' request, St. Andrew called them to him and
they came in the likeness of dogs; he ordered them to leave the area.
The dogs are seen running off along the left margin of the panel.
Two of the slain passers-by are at St. Andrew's feet.
