Seated Apostles

Circa 1290
Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, Rome

Two of the apostles hold crosses. These could be Philip, whose attribute is often a cross, and Peter, who was crucified. The second man from the left has a chalice, usually an attribute of John. When only two apostles are shown beardless, the other is sometimes James the Less.
