The Dormition and Coronation of the
Virgin

Nineteenth century
restoration of 13th century original
From
a tympanum in Notre Dame de Paris
The above photos are of the upper and middle registers of the
tympanum. In the middle register, Christ (in the center, with the
cross on his halo) has come with his angels (at either end of the bier)
to take his mother to Heaven. In the upper register, she sits
beside him on a double throne as an angel crowns her and Christ blesses
her with his right hand (in his left is what appears to be a candle or
wand).
