The inscription to the right is "S[AN]C[TU]S PAVLUS" -- i.e., Latin for "St. Paul."  The inscription on the left says the same in Greek.  St. Paul's scroll reads, "IN NOMINE IE[SU] O[M]NE GENV FLECTATUR CAELESTIUM TER[R]ESTRIUM ET INFERNORVM" -- Latin for "At the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in Heaven, on earth, and in the regions below."
