St. Bartholomew

Oil on canvas
In the altarpiece of the chapel of St. Anne, Burgos Cathedral, Spain
The altarpiece itself was done be Gil de Siloé in 1483-6, but this oil is obviously from a later time.

The man in the headband's casually professional manner differs from the engaged problem-solving of the torturers in Ribera's painting of the same subject, but both works are profound meditations on the moral dangers in "just doing my job."
