Saints Peter
and Paul
The image appears to
be 17th or 18th century in style. Its iconography is a bit
unusual. St. Paul has his sword but he also has a full head of
hair. Instead of keys, Peter's attribute is an open book with the
words of John 21:17: "He said
to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me?
Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest
thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou
knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep."
