St. Agnes
and St. Pudentiana
9th century
Mosaic
Chapel
of St. Zeno
Church of St. Praxedes, Rome
The two saints are identified by the gray inscriptions (illegible in
this photo) placed beside their haloes. As in the great apse mosaic in this church, they carry
their martyr's crowns as offerings -- in this case a part of a
procession to the altar in the St. Zeno chapel. A third figure in the procession,
separated from these two by a blind window, is St. Praxedes, St.
Pudentiana's sister.
