The inscription reads "
ALMVS ET ISTE DOCET PVDENS AD SIDERA CAELES. TE ROGO PVDENS SANCTE NOS PURGA CRIMINA TRVDENS." The first sentence means, "This kind Pudens shows the way to the starry heavens." The second sentence means, "St. Pudens, I ask you, forcefully cleanse our sins."
