Giottino (Giotto di Stefano)The name Pietà comes from the source
website, but it would be more appropriate to call this painting a
Lamentation, because Mary is not cradling the body.
As Giotto di
Bondone's Lamentations from 1290
and 1306,
we see St. Mary Magdalene (flowing
blond hair) kneeling at Jesus' feet, the Virgin at his head, and St. John in between kissing his hand.
From the church of San Remigio in Florence. Identified by Vasari as a work of Giotto di maestro Stefano, called Giottino. Standing on the left are Saints Remy (Remigio) and Benedict.
