Engebrechtsz, Cornelis
St. Cecilia and her Fiancé

1518-20
Oak panel, diameter: 24 cm
Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest

Tondos such as this were usually hung in bedrooms, so the portraits may be of a couple who commissioned the painting. The swords could refer to Valerian and Cecilia's martyrdom, but the bird and other features may have more to do with the contemporary couple's relationship.
