Psalm 48

David sang þysne eahta and feowertigoðan sealm, on þam he lærde ealle men, ge on his dagum ge æfter his dagum, þæt hy hy upp ne ahofen for heora welum, and þæt hy ongeaton þæt hi ne mihton þa welan mid him lædan heonon of weorulde. And eac he lærde þæt þa ðearfan hy ne forðohton, ne ne wenden þæt God heora ne rohte. And eac he witgode þæt ealle rihtwise menn sceoldon þæt ylce læran, and eac þæt Crist wolde þæt ylce læran þonne he come.

ITEM VOX AECCLESIE SUPER LAZARO ET DIVITE PURPURATO

2(1)] Audite hec, omnes gentes; auribus percipite, qui habitatis orbem,

2] Gehyrað nu þas word, ealle þeoda, and onfoð heora mid eowrum earum, ealle þa þe eorðan buiað,

3(2)] Quique terrigine et filii hominum, simul in unum dives et pauper.

3] And ealle þa þe þæron acende synt, and eall manna bearn, ægðer ge welige ge heane.

4(3)] Os meum loquetur sapientiam, et meditatio cordis mei prudentiam.

4] Min muð wile sprecan wisdom, and seo smeaung minre heortan foreþancolnesse.

5(4)] Inclinabo ad similitudinem aurem meam; aperiam in psalterio propositionem meam.

5] Ic onhylde min earan to þam bispellum þæs ðe me innan lærð, and ic secge on þyssum sealme hwæs ic wylle ascian,

6(5)] Ut quid timebo in die mala? Iniquitas calcanei mei circumdedit me.

6] And hwæt ic ondræde on þæm yflan dagum, þæt is unrihtwisnes minra hoa and ealles mines flæsces, sio me hæfð utan behrincged.

7(6)] Qui confidunt in virtute sua, quique in abundantia [divitiarum] suarum gloriabuntur:

7] Ongitan nu þa þe truwiað heora agenum mægene and þære mycelnesse hiora speda gylpað and wuldrað

8(7)] Frater non redemit. Redemit homo? Non dabit Deo placationem suam, 9] nec pretium redemptionis anime sue, et laboravit in eternum, 10] et vivet in finem.

8] Þæt nan broðor oþres sawle nele alysan of helle, ne ne mæg þeah he wylle, gif he sylf nanwuht nyle ne ne deð to goode þa hwile þe he her byð. 9] Gylde forþy him sylf and alyse his sawle þa hwyle ðe he her sy, forþam se broðor oþþe nyle oððe ne mæg, gif he sylf na ne onginð to tilianne þæt he þæt weorð agife to alysnesse his sawle. Ac þæt ys wyrse þæt full neah ælc mann þæs tiolað (10)] fram þæm anginne his lifes oþ þone ende (9)] hu he on ecnesse swincan mæge,

(8)] Quoniam non videbit interitum 11] cum viderit sapientes morientes; simul insipiens et stultus peribunt,

10] And næfð nænne forðanc be his deaðe 11] þonne he gesyhð þa welegan and þa weoruldwisan sweltan. Se unwisa and se dysega forweorþað him ætsamne,

(9)] Et relinquent alienis divitias suas, 12] et sepulchra eorum domus eorum in eternum,

And læfað fremdum heora æhte. Þeah hy gesibbe hæbben, hy beoð him swyðe fremde þonne hi nan good æfter him ne doð. 12] Ac heora byrgen byð heora hus on ecnesse,

(10)] Tabernacula eorum in generatione et progenie, et invocabunt nomina eorum in terris ipsorum.

And heora geteld of cynne on cynn, and hi nemnað hiora land and hiora tunas be heora naman.

13(11)] Et homo, cum in honore esset, non intellexit; comparatus est iumentis insipientibus, et similis factus est illis.

13] Þa hwile þe mon on are and on anwealde byð, næfð he full neah nan andgyt nanes goodes, ac onhyreð dysegum neatum, swa hi eac beoð him swyðe gelice.

14(12)] Hec via eorum scandalum ipsis, et postea in ore suo benedicent.

14]Ac þes weg and þeos orsorgnes þyses andweardan lifes him fet witu on þam toweardan, forþam heo on last tiliað to cwemanne Gode and mannum mid wordum næs mid weorcum; ne furþum gearone willan nabbað to þam weorce.

15(13)] Sicut oves in inferno positi sunt, et mors depascet eos.

15] Mid swylcum monnum byð hell gefylled, swa swa fald mid sceapum, and se deað hy forswylcð on ecnesse.

(14)] Et obtinebunt eos iusti in matutino, et auxilium eorum veterescet in inferno, et a gloria sua expulsi sunt.

And sona on þam ylcan morgene þa rihtwisan heora wealdað, and hyra fultum and hyra anweald forealdað on helle, forþæm hy beoð adrifene of heora wuldre.

15(16)] Verumptamen Deus liberavit animam meam de manu inferi dum acceperit me.

16] Ac God þeah alyst mine sawle of helle handa, þeah ic þyder cume þonne he me underfehð.

17(16)] Ne timueris cum dives factus fuerit homo, et cum multiplicata fuerit gloria domus eius.

17] Ne wundrige ge na, ne ne andgiað, on þone welegan, þeah he welig seo geworden, and þeah gemanigfealdod sy þæt wuldor his huses.

18(17)] Quoniam non cum morietur accipiet haec omnia, neque simul descendit cum eo gloria domus eius.

18] Forþam þe he ðyder ne læt þæt eall mid him þonne he heonan færþ, ne hit him æfter þyder ne færeð.

19(18)] Quoniam anima eius in vita ipsius benedicetur, et confitebitur tibi dum benefeceris ei.

19] Forþæm he hæfde his heofonrice her on eorðan, þa him nanes willan næs forwyrnd her, ne nanes lustes on þysse weorulde, forðam he nyste him nænne þanc, ne Gode ne mannum, þæs ðe [he] him sealde, syððan he hit hæfde, butan þa ane hwile þe hit him man sealde.

20(19)] Et introibit usque in progeniem patrum suorum, et usque in eternum non videbit lumen.

20] Forþæm he færð þær his foregengan beoð, þæt is to helle, þær he næfre nan leoht ne gesyhð.

21(20)] Et homo, cum in honore esset, non intellexit; comparatus est iumentis insipientibus, et similis factus est illis.

21] Ac þas spræce ne ongit na swylc mann þonne he byð on welan and on weorðscipe, and onhyreð þonne dysegum neatum, and byð him swiðe gelic geworden.
