Notes:
This muscle is found only in the heart. Note the dark staining oblong shaped nuclei clearly visible here. Also note the the lines that are running perpendicular to the muscle fibers, these structures are called intercalated discs and they are were individual cells adjoin each other. In lab you should compare skeletal muscle with cardiac muscle and note the different characteristics of each.
