Majors and Minors

Bachelor of Science with a Major in Physics (Nuclear Science Track)

The nuclear science track is intended for students who are interested in the nuclear field. There is an increasing demand for nuclear scientists as a result of the vast expansion of the local nuclear industry. The existence of the Savannah River Site is also a key factor in the local interest in nuclear science. Students who are interested in graduate school will have an advantage because very few undergraduate institutions offer the opportunity to complete a nuclear concentration.

The nuclear track is open to both Chemistry and Physics majors. The track consists of 3 nuclear courses as a part of a comprehensive curriculum. PHYS3000: “Introduction to Nuclear Science”, PHYS3010: “Introduction to Nuclear Measurements”, PHYS3020: “Applications of Nuclear Science.” A new nuclear science lab has been created which will allow students to gain access and experience with radiation detection and measurements which are applicable to both research and industry endeavors.
