Financial Accounting for Managerial Control |
CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
Prerequisite: Graduate (MBA) student status. Provides students
with: (1) an understanding of basic financial accounting terminology, (2)
an overview of the financial accounting process, (3) sufficient grounding
in financial accounting to be able to understand and analyze the basic
financial statements. |
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The principal learning outcomes of this course are to have each student
develop and demonstrate knowledge and basic skills related to:

Understanding the basic classified financial statement of a business and
the meaning of each statement

Understanding the accounting cycle, the recording process and the preparation
of financial statements

Understanding the elements of current and long-term assets, current and
long-term liabilities and owners/stockholders' equity and how different
acceptable accounting methods may affect the financial statements and the
financial position of the business

Understanding basic managerial accounting terminology and the types of
information that managers may need in order to run their businesses efficiently
and effectively

Understanding cost accounting methods and standard cost determination as
well as cost/volume/profit relationships

Analyzing and evaluating financial statements
