COURSE TITLE: Management Theory and Practice
 
CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
A study of the theory and practices of administrative management and an introduction to organization behavior and organization theory.  Uses a systems approach to emphasize the interdependence of social, technical and structural inputs to the organization.
 
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The principal learning outcomes of this course are to have each student develop and demonstrate knowledge and basic skills related to: 
  1. The management process and management from a historical perspective

  2.  
  3. The environment in which business operates including social responsibility, ethics and international management

  4.  
  5. The planning process to include planning, goal setting, decision making and strategy formulation and implementation

  6.  
  7. The organizing process including job design, authority and power, work teams, culture and change

  8.  
  9. The staffing process of selecting, developing and managing employees

  10.  
  11. Behavioral science including motivation, group dynamics, leadership, and communication

  12.  
  13. The Control Process, including operations, production and control techniques

  14.  
  15. Current managerial trends such as Total Quality Management, Re-engineering and High Performance Teams

  16.  
  17. Globalization's effect on the management of current and future businesses
