These include,
but are not limited to the following:

- Your Internet Service Provider: Augusta
State University Information
Technology Services is your ISP
provider.
- Network Card Requirement: Your
computer needs an Ethernet network card (10 BaseT or 10/100
BaseT) with an RJ45 connection. An RJ45 connection looks similar
to a regular phone jack except it is larger.
- Activate network port: The
network port in your room will be activated when you notify
us that you have moved in.
- Contact the ITS Help Desk - 706-737-1482
(Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM) to request your port
activation.
- Your port will be activated within 24 hours.
- Connecting the network cable
- Turn your computer off.
- Plug one end of the network cable into the network port
on your computer.
- Connect the other end to the network jack on the wall.
(The network jack is orange.)
- Turn your computer on.
- Configure Network settings : Configure
your Network Connection settings on your device to obtain
the IP address and DNS server address automatically (using
DHCP services).
- Go
to Control Panel. Select Network Connections.
- Right
click Local
Area Network Connection and select Properties.
- Select
the General Tab. Under "This
connection uses the following items" select TCP/IP
Internet Protocol and click the Properties button.
- Select "Obtain an IP address
automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address
automatically".
- Restart your computer if required.

- Go to System
Preferences and select Network
- Show :Select Built in Ethernet
- ConfigureIP: Select DHCP
- Click Apply Now

- Connect to the Internet: Open your internet
browser. You are now "on the internet".
- Surf the
web.
- Use FTP to access your JagNET account (Refer to the
JagNET brochure or go online at http://www.aug.edu/its
for details on how to find your login name & password). You
MUST authenticate your JagNET account from a lab computer
(on campus or at University Village ) before you can access
your JagNET web folder from your personal computer in your
room.
- Access MyASU.
- Desktop protection tools: We
strongly recommend that you install antivirus software,
Google toolbar, and an anti spyware utility. Keep these tools up to date as they
will help protect your computer from viruses and other intrusive
programs. Keep your
operating system up to date with critical patches. This is true
for Windows updates and Apple OS updates.
