Welcome to WAASU (Wah-Zoo) - Wireless Access at ASU

Wireless provides network access to the World Wide Web from a variety of locations on campus without a cable physically connected from the wall to your PC. Imagine eating lunch in the outside patio area at Washington Hall - reading email or getting caught up with your class notes via MyASU.

Standard Wireless Service is available to all ASU faculty, staff, currently enrolled students, and current members of the ASU Alumni Association.

  • Before you use your account on a wireless device, you MUST first activate it by logging on one time to an ASU lab computer or your office computer.   Then you can access the wireless
  • There is no additional software to install.
  • When you open your internet browser you are prompted to logon to WAASU using your JagNET ID and password.
  • You can access the web with this service.
  • Instant Messenger services are available (FTP not included).
Where are the clouds

You can connect to WAASU where ever there is a wireless cloud. A cloud is an area covered by the wireless network. Reception within the clouds will vary. Some areas have an excellent signal while others areas are low.

Both Netgear and Linksys offer network cards that are reasonably priced, easy to install, and are available at many local stores.

      • When asking to use the account, alumni must present their current Alumni Association card.  This card will either be the current paper card stating they are a member for the year or the newer JagCards that are being created for Alumni and have been validated with the current year after the member has paid their dues.
WAASU Secure

During the winter break of 2010, ITS upgraded the wireless infrastructure to the most current 802.11n (up to 300Mbps) technology. Included in this upgrade is the addition of a more secure version of WAASU that utilizes modern encryption standards (WPA-AES) to safeguard information as it travels through the air. These standards help prevent individuals from snooping the information transmitted from a mobile device (laptop, mobile phone, etc. WAASU (Secure) uses a technology called 802.1x that provides students, faculty, staff, and alumni an authentication system that will not require users to enter credentials each time you connect.
