The ASU Conservatory Program offers Private Instruction in all the standard performance areas, including

  • Piano & Organ
  • Voice
  • Strings (violin, viola, violoncello, doublebass, harp, guitar, mandolin, banjo)
  • Woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, recorder)
  • Brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba)
  • Percussion (drumset, mallet instruments, timpani, etc.)

Scheduling private lessons with a Conservatory Program teacher

  • Contact the Conservatory Office by phone, (706) 731-7971, or e-mail, consprog@aug.edu, to request a referral for an instructor.
  • A referral will be made by e-mail or snail mail giving the contact information for an instructor.
  • Call the teacher to discuss what you would like to achieve in the lessons, and to see whether you can find a lesson time that will work for both you and the teacher.
  • Once you have established a lesson time with one of the teachers, you should fill out the registration form and return it to this office along with the tuition.
  • If the teacher is unable to take a new student, or you cannot find a workable lesson time, please contact the Office to see whether another teacher reference is available.

Payment Procedures

  • The Conservatory Program accepts personal checks, credit cards (Visa or Master Card only), money orders or cash.
  • A fully completed registration form must accompany payment for lessons.
  • We normally suggest that you should register for a minimum of six lessons at a time.
  • Make all checks payable to “ASU Conservatory” and mail, along with a Registration form, to:

Tuition Rates:  There are two tuition rates for private instruction, depending on the teacher’s rank:

Instructors represent the core teaching faculty of the Conservatory Program. They are all carefully selected college music graduates (many with masters degrees or doctorates) who have exhibited excellent qualifications in their education, performance abilities and teaching experience.

Master Teachers are Augusta State University faculty members with completed doctoral degrees in their performance areas. They teach privately for the Conservatory Program as their schedules permit. Consequently, availability is limited and auditions may be required.

The chart below specifies the exact cost, including the required processing fee, for every possible number of lessons, for 30-, 45-, and 60-minute lessons, and for either Instructors or Master Teachers.

Most registrations are for eight to ten lessons, although it is possible to register for other amounts as well, as shown on the chart below. Each registration for a set of lessons is a contract between the student and the Conservatory Program.
