Inventories The interest, abilities and work-values inventories can help you learn more about yourself. Results from the interest inventory will suggest which career areas (groups of similar occupations) best fit your interests. Results from the abilities inventory will suggest career areas that best fit what you estimate your abilities to be. Results from the values inventory will suggest career areas that are more likely to contribute to your work satisfaction. Occupation See a list of all occupations, find a specific occupation, if you have chosen a major, find related occupations, if you have served in the military, find related occupations, find occupations related to inventories you have completed or to parts of the World-of-Work Map, find occupations that meet specific needs, find occupations that have high salaries or many job openings, information about occupations in the military, learn general information about the armed forces, see your list of favorite civilian or military occupations. Majors See the list of all majors, find a major in a subject that interests you, find majors that can prepare you for occupations you have chosen, find a major in a part of the World-of-Work Map that interests you. Schools See a list of schools in a state, find schools that offer a specific major, find schools that offer a specific type of degree, find a certain type of school, find schools that meet specific needs, find scholarships, learn more about financial aid, or determine your financial need. Job Search Learn how to write a resume, learn how to write a cover letter, prepare for a job interview, find websites that list job openings, get tips on how to find job openings through other sources, learn how to find internships, learn about apprenticeships, get addresses of local apprenticeship sponsors, find out which occupations can be entered through an apprenticeship. My Portfolio Your Career Portfolio contains a summary of all of the information you entered in DISCOVER. It is a good idea to review the information at least once a year and correct anything that is no longer accurate. Update your identifying information. plan courses you will take or record courses you have taken, create or edit your resume, make notes to yourself or other types of information, review the path you selected, see the results of the inventories you have taken or entered from paper, see your favorite career areas, occupations, or military occupations, see your favorite majors, see your favorite schools, colleges, and universities, see your favorite apprenticeships.
