The Georgia Career Information Center operates the Georgia Career Information System (GCIS), a computer-based library of occupational and educational information and a primary component in the career decision-making process.
- GCIS provides students and other users throughout Georgia with vital career information.
- GCIS is used in Georgia's elementary, middle, and high schools; colleges and universities; technical colleges; Employment Service offices; Rehabilitation Services offices; Department of Labor offices; Department of Family and Children Services offices; and public libraries.
- This year approximately 650,000 Georgians will access GCIS at approximately 1,700 sites throughout the state.
- Each year Center staff members conduct more than 130 presentations to over 3,375 training workshop, conference, and meeting participants in Georgia.
Occupational Information
- CAREER PROFILES -- presents informal perspectives on working in particular occupations
- DESCRIPTIONS -- contains comprehensive descriptions of Georgia and national occupations, including state and national wage data, employment, and licensing
- MILITARY EMPLOYMENT -- provides descriptions of 157 military occupations
- OCCUPATION VIDEOS -- contains 60-90 second snapshots of what an occupation is like (available for over 350 occupations in the Internet, Windows, and Macintosh versions)
- PREPARATION -- includes helpful training and education programs that can provide preparation for an occupation
- RESOURCES -- provides references to additional resources for occupation information
Educational Information
- CONTINUING EDUCATION -- contains information about professional, personal, and academic enrichment programs at public and private schools in Georgia
- CO-OP EDUCATION -- includes a list of alternating classroom and work experience programs available for students
- DISTANCE EDUCATION -- provides nontraditional classroom learning opportunities
- FINANCIAL AID -- contains information on more than 3,567 federal, state, and independent aid programs representing about 5 billion dollars
- GEORGIA SCHOOLS -- provides information on 308 universities, colleges, technical colleges, vocational schools, and apprenticeship schools in the state
- HOMESCHOOL -- contains information about secondary education in a home environment
- JUNIOR ROTC -- includes information on military training programs for high school students
- PROGRAM PROFILES -- provides an informal perspective of a program of study
- PROGRAMS OF STUDY AND TRAINING -- provides comprehensive program descriptions for schools in Georgia and across the nation
- ROTC -- describes military training programs for college students
- STUDY ABROAD -- contains information about taking classes in a foreign country
- U. S. SCHOOLS -- contains information on 4,363 four-year and two-year postsecondary institutions including professional, public, and private schools in the United States and its Territories
- TECH PREP -- provides information on tech prep programs in Georgia including the names of coordinators
- YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS -- contains information about youth apprenticeships in Georgia, including entry requirements and the names of coordinators

- ASSESSMENT LINK -- provides a tool that matches the results of certain vocational tests with corresponding GCIS occupations
- FINANCIAL AID SORT -- contains a national aid search that matches educational plans and individual characteristics to a list of scholarships and loans
- GRADUATE SCHOOL SORT -- includes a national search identifying colleges and universities offering studies beyond a bachelor’s degree that meet specific criteria, such as degree level, programs of study offered, and campus location and setting
- IDEAS™ ASSESSMENT -- provides a self-assessment tool that identifies your career-related interests and matches them with GCIS occupations
- OCCUPATION SORT (New) -- creates a list of related GCIS occupations based on personal preferences
- OCCUPATION SORT CLASSIC -- matches your interests and abilities with corresponding GCIS occupations

- CAREER STUDIO -- provides career exercises for middle and high school students based on Georgia’s school-to-career clusters
- INDUSTRIES -- contains national and state industry information, including federal job titles, industry size, and industry outlook
- JOB SEARCH -- provides information on completing job applications, preparing a resume, and interviewing
- KEEP THAT JOB -- contains information about good work habits
- SELF-EMPLOYMENT -- provides information about owning a business
Learning Exercises
- LEARNING ACTIVITIES -- contains 468 projects, worksheets, and activities designed to infuse career information and career development concepts into various secondary curriculum areas as well as adult learning workshops
