Grant Funding Overview
The GRU Center for Undergraduate Research & Scholarship (CURS) is pleased to offer several forms of funding to support faculty-led student research, scholarship and creative activity. Faculty in all academic disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals. There are three categories of funding available:
- Supplies and materials: This funding is available to faculty members working with undergraduates, either in a class or as individuals, who need supplies in order to complete their research or scholarly activity (e.g. specialized books, materials, film, chemicals, equipment, etc.).
- Faculty travel with students for undergraduate research activity: This funding is intended to support faculty traveling with students to engage in or present research. Faculty mentors should explain the activity or conference to which s/he is traveling, how many students s/he is accompanying, and if s/he will also be presenting, researching, or working and in what capacity.
- Faculty development related to undergraduate research and scholarship: This money is to aid faculty in developing an undergraduate research curriculum, either by attending conferences, workshops, or other forums to learn how to improve their ability to engage students in research, scholarship and creative activity. This can also be used to purchase books or materials on the topic of undergraduate research in specific disciplines.
Generally, CURS grants are not awarded to support class assignments or class projects. CURS grants are intended to encourage faculty-student work that extends beyond the normal classroom. A review of previously funded projects will help give you a better idea of the variety of projects previously funded.
Funding will depend on the number of applicants, available funds, and feasibility of proposed research and/or scholarship. The proposals will be reviewed by a faculty committee. The quality of the proposal will be the primary selection criterion. Proposals should be submitted no later than February 6, 2013 to:
