Spotlight: Andre Patterson

Andre PattersonAndre Patterson is an undergraduate senior Psychology student at GRU who became interested in research through the concept of being able to answer intriguing questions about humans. He has worked alongside Dr. Hartmann in a correlation study and, more recently, with Dr. Topolski in research concerning non-consensual erotic and rape myths. He has had the opportunity to present at the Brown Bag Series, The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality Conference in Tampa, Florida, and the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Through participation in various projects, Andre has discovered that research is his passion and he would like to pursue it as a career. "What I like best about research is that there is virtually no limit to the questions you can answer, so long as you are willing to work hard," he stated. He advises undergraduates to get involved in every aspect of research, and not to limit yourself to one part of the process. Find a mentor, hone your researching skills, and present your studies. These are key aspects to gaining confidence in yourself and your abilities as a researcher.
