Educational Leadership
The Educational Leadership program at Augusta State University provides students with several degree options: a Master's degree and an Educational Specialist degree. Prospective students must meet College of Education criteria for graduate student admission. The Educational Specialist degree leads to the PL-6 or performance-based certification in Georgia. Courses in both programs of study are scheduled in 8 week terms to provide students the opportunity to complete both degree programs in a more timely fashion.
After September 1, 2011, candidates admitted to the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership must complete two pre-service courses before beginning the Ed.S. Core Program of Study and prior to beginning residency work.
Georgia Professional Standards Commission Rule 505-2-.300 Educational Leadership defines Leadership Position and Leadership Role:
Leadership positions as determined by the Department of Education require certification and are those positions in which an individual has authority and supervisory responsibilities. Leadership roles do not require leadership certification and incumbents do not necessarily have authority or supervisory responsibilities.
Candidates must hold leadership positions or must be assigned to leadership roles at the school or school system level to complete program residency requirements.
