Student Employment at ASU

Each academic year, ASU employs approximately 350 students in a wide variety of work settings throughout the campus and community under its Federal Work Study and Student Assistant Programs. These programs offer students valuable work experience while helping them meet their educational and living expenses. Additional program details are listed below.

Interested in working under one of our programs?

Visit ASU CareerLink . CareerLink provides access to all available student employment opportunities. Current ASU students already have a CareerLink account. New students should have access to CareerLink by mid-August. Once in CareerLink, click on "For Students/Alumni". The first time you login, use your 927 number as your username and “ success” as your password (you may change your password to a unique code upon login). You will be prompted to complete your profile. You must complete all required information listed under the following tabs before the system will allow you to search jobs: "Personal Information", "Academic Information", and "Privacy". To search for a job, click on the "Jobs" tab located at the top of the screen. Highlight and click "ASU CareerLink Jobs". All available jobs and internships will appear on your screen.

Filter your search by "Position Type" and simply click on the "Position Type" scroll down bar and highlight “Student Employment on Campus” or “Federal Work Study Off-Campus.” Each job description will inform you how to apply for that particular job. Most supervisors require that you upload your resume through CareerLink. It will be sent directly to their email account. It is important to read the job description and application instructions carefully to ensure you do exactly what the supervisor is asking you to do. Supervisors for off-campus positions can only hire FWS students, so they must confirm your eligibility with the Financial Aid Office before you can interview for the position.

If you are offered and wish to accept a job offer, you will need to complete an employment packet for your new position. This packet is available here online. You will complete this packet with your new supervisor. You will work with your supervisor to schedule a start date that should be no earlier than 5 business days after the date you submit your employment packet to the Financial Aid Office. This will allow time for your criminal background check (form included in the packet) to clear. During this visit, your employment packet will be reviewed for completeness, training will take place, and your eligibility for FWS will be determined (if not already done). PLEASE NOTE: During peak processing times, such as August and September, Student Employment Orientation sessions will be held. Students who are being hired during these times will be required to attend one of these sessions to submit their employment packets. If FWS eligible, you will receive an award letter via email. You will receive another email once your background check has cleared, and then you may begin work.

Student Assistant Program

The Student Assistant Program (SA) provides part-time positions for students to aid in meeting a portion of their educational expenses, as well as obtaining valuable employment experience. Student Assistants are employed in departments on campus. All students who are currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program are eligible for the SA Program. Financial need is not a factor. Compensation is 100% departmental and the pay rate is at least minimum wage.

Federal Work Study Program

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program is designed to stimulate and promote the part-time employment of students who demonstrate financial need in accordance with federal guidelines. FWS students are employed in many departments on campus as well as agencies and organizations throughout the Augusta area. All interested students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other necessary documentation before eligibility can be determined. For more information on completing the financial aid application process, you should visit the ASU Financial Aid Office website's “How to Apply” page.

The amount of a FWS award depends on the student's financial need, the number of hours the hiring department needs them to work, and the funding level received by the university. FWS recipients are awarded a specific amount of funding each year that may be earned through their employment. Seventy-five percent of a student's earnings are provided by the federal government and twenty-five percent by the department for which the student works.

A student will not be awarded FWS until the student has secured a position and submitted an employment packet to the Financial Aid Office. After submission, eligibility for the program will be reviewed. If eligible and funds are available, the student will receive an award letter via email. If not awarded, the student will be hired as a Student Assistant.

FWS students are responsible for tracking their award balance each semester. Students who exceed the amount of their award risk forfeiting future awards. More information on how to do this is will be featured in our Student Employee Guide, which will be available in the next few weeks.
