HOPE Scholarship
Can the HOPE Scholarship be used during the summer semester?
Yes. The HOPE Scholarship may be awarded during the summer semester
if you maintained a 3.0 GPA at the spring semester HOPE checkpoint
and are otherwise eligible.
Do I have to attend full-time to receive HOPE?
No. Your HOPE award will be based on your enrollment regardless of
the number of hours.
Can HOPE be used for Study Abroad?
Yes. Your HOPE award will be based on the number of credit hours of
enrollment as determined by your Study Abroad Program.
When is my GPA checked for HOPE?
Your GPA is checked at the end of the semester that you attempt your
30th, 60th and 90th semester hour AND EVERY spring semester.
I lost my HOPE Scholarship. Can I regain the scholarship
in the future?
Yes. Students attending public or private institutions have an opportunity
to regain the HOPE Scholarship. Following the school term that they
attempt either 60 semester hours or 90 semester hours of study with
a 3.00 cumulative HOPE GPA, they can regain HOPE.
How does a grade of “W” affect my HOPE Scholarship?
Grades of “W” count as attempted hours for HOPE.
How do Learning Support hours affect HOPE?
Learning Support courses also count toward attempted hours for HOPE.
For how long can I receive the HOPE Scholarship?
As long as you remain academically eligible (maintain a 3.0 at each
checkpoint), you may receive the scholarship for up to 127 attempted
hours or until you have received a Bachelor’s Degree (whichever
comes first).
I am an older student and graduated from high school prior
to start of the HOPE Program. Is there HOPE assistance for non-traditional
students who started college years ago and are now returning to college
to complete their degree?
Yes. If you graduated from high school prior to the inception of the
HOPE Scholarship Program in 1993, you can become eligible for the
HOPE Scholarship in a degree program beginning your sophomore year
(or after attempting 30 semester hours) and continuing years if you
have a 3.0 cumulative HOPE GPA for all coursework attempted since
your high school graduation.
