Philip Morsberger

Painting

Mr. Morsberger is the Morris Eminent Scholar Emeritus in Art. He is not currently teaching classes at Augusta State University.

Morsberger has had a long association with Oxford University, where he studied in the mid-50s and where, from 1971 to 1984, he was the Ruskin Master of Drawing. Back in the U.S., he was honored by appointments at, inter alia, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Berkeley, as well as the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he was the President' Fellow in Painting and Drawing from 1987 to 1996. Morsberger recently completed an engagement as William S. MOrris Emient Scholar in Art (Artist in Residence) at Augusta State University and continues for now to have his primary studio in Augusta, whiile returning regularly to Oxford.

Morsberger's work is in major collections on both sides of the Atlnatic, including those of the San Jse Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Columbus (OH) Museum of Art, the Rochester (NY) Memorial Art Gallery, the Hood Museum at Dartmouth, the Ashmolean Museum, the Miami University art Museum (OH), the di Rosa Foundation (CA), the Morris Museum of Art (Augusta, GA), and Oxford University.
