Richard D. Brasco

Part time instructor

 

Richard D. Brasco recently retired teaching after thirty-five years in Georgia and South Carolina. Bands under his direction have performed at state music conventions in Georgia and South Carolina, and at the national American School Band Directors Association convention. His ensembles have also performed at the Universities of Georgia, South Carolina, and Augusta State; and at Westminster Central Hall in London, England.

The Evans High School Band has been on national television during its 1993 Macy's Parade in New York City, and on international television at the Lord Mayor's Parade in London, England. His Jazz Ensemble I performed in the Easter in Maastricht Festival in the Netherlands.

Mr. Brasco's ensembles have received superior ratings in concert, jazz and marching contests and festivals in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. He has served as clinician, conductor, and adjudicator in Alaska, North and South Carolina, Georgia, London, and Edinbrough, Scotland.

Mr. Brasco was the South Carolina State award winner of the ASBDA Standbury Award, three time recipient of the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association, selected three times as Teacher of the Year for Evans High School and Columbia County Schools, and selected as "Teachers Who Make a Difference" by the School Band and Orchestra Magazine. He was also selected three times as Star Teacher and was the recipient of the Channel 6 "Golden Apple Award."

Mr. Brasco is a member of MENC, Phi Beta Mu where he served as Secretary/Treasurer, and GMEA where he served as Tenth District chairman and as Chairman of the District Ten Honor Band Clinic. He is a member of the American School Band Directors Association and is adjunct faculty at Augusta State University where he also conducts the Augusta State Conservatory Wind Symphony.

Mr. Brasco is co-conductor of the adult wind ensemble, Savannah River Winds. Savannah River Winds has performed for the Georgia Music Educators In Service Convention and has been selected to perform at the South Carolina Music Educators State Convention. The ensemble is also scheduled to do a recording session with composer David Shaffer of several of his composition on compact disc for world wide distribution.
