Musical Studies Offered

The Conservatory Program offers private lesson instruction for children and adults in the following areas: Bassoon, Double Bass, Clarinet, Euphonium, Flute, Guitar, Horn, Oboe, Piano, Recorder, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Violoncello, and Voice. Another way of listing these musical areas is to say that the list includes ALL the standard band and orchestra instruments, plus voice, piano, guitar, and recorder.

Not all of the preceding instruments are right for the very young student. Please call for a recommendation. Class instruction in several areas is often available. Read further down on this page for information about these classes.

Ensembles

The ASU Conservatory Program sponsors the following ensembles for students in different age groups. Auditions are required for each ensemble. Tuition varies for each ensemble. Call the Conservatory Office for additional information.

Group Classes

Group classes are an interesting, economical way to start on a musical instrument, learn more about singing, or investigate another musical topic. A minimum of five students is necessary to make a class. New sections can be added if there is a large enough demand. The following classes meet once a week for 6 to 10 weeks, usually meeting in the evenings or weekend mornings. Call 731-7971 for times and starting dates.

Fundamentals of Music. This class covers the foundations of music notation and theory. Such topics as rhythm, harmony, scales, sightsinging, and ear training will be included. Ten weeks, $119.

Guitar Class. Learn the basics of contemporary acoustic guitar playing: chords, strumming, picking, melodic lines, folk style and popular songs. For ages 12 and up. Acoustic guitars only. Ten weeks $119.

Piano Class. This class meets in Augusta State University's modern piano lab. Topics covered include: note reading, chords, accompanying, scales and ensemble playing. Ten weeks, $119.

Voice Class. Instructors guide the student in developing the basic healthy techniques of singing in a supportive environment. Students learn literature appropriate to their experiences and abilities. Ten weeks, $119.
