Joint Enrolled Student: What is that?

A high school junior or senior that is qualified can enroll in college courses for college credit, thus becoming a jointed enrolled student. It allows the student to take classes not available inside the high school curriculum. At Augusta Sate, these students are advised in the First Year Experience Office. The students are considered to be non-degree seeking.

What Classes Can I Register For as a Joint Enrolled Student?

Your high school guidance counselor can help you determine which college courses will benefit you the most. Some College Prep Curriculums require a student to take a course at ASU to satisfy requirements. To ensure that it will count toward your high school graduation, you must seek approval from your high school. You will need two 3 credit hour courses in one subject to satisfy one year of high school credit since one high school credit is the equivalent of 5 college credit hours. An ASU advisor in the First Year Experience office can help you determine which course will be appropriate for your academic goals. Course taken by Joint Enrolled students count towards official college credit at ASU and are transferable within the University System of Georgia. If planning to attend a university other than ASU after high school, contact that institution to determine how the course credits will transfer.

How Do I Register For Classes at ASU and When Can I?April 26, 2007a mandatory Orientation date to introduce you to Augusta State as well as to register for your classes. If you miss or cannot attend the Orientation you must immediately notify the First Year Experience office to set an appointment with an academic advisor.

Continuing Joint Enrolled Students may early register for the following terms after working with an academic advisor in the First Year Experience office.

How Can I Report My ASU Grades to My High School?

Student Records at ASU automatically reports your grades to your high school after the end of the semester as a courtesy to Joint Enrolled Students. Before grades can be released, all holds on a student's record must be cleared.

How Can I Pay for My Classes at ASU?

You must have any balance due paid by the due date in order to complete registration. Go on Elroy and follow the instructions to confirm the amount due or to pay by credit card. You may pay fees by cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. Obtain the appropriate application form from your high school guidance counselor if you are eligible for the A CCEL Program (HOPE). Fill out the form completely including signatures from the appropriate authorities before turning it in to the ASU Financial Aid Office, at Payne Hall on the second floor, for processing well before the due date each term. Though the A CCEL Program Award covers tuition for A CCEL designate courses, mandatory fees, and a book allowance, you must be prepared to pay any balance due.

How Can I Continue My Education at ASU after High School Graduation?

To start on a degree program at ASU, complete a new admission (no fee required) at the admissions office before the application deadline.

How Can I Get ID Cards, Parking Permits, and Books?

New Joint enrolled Students must bring an official photo Identification to the Students Activities Office to have a Jag Card made and validated, after fee payment. Jag Cards must be validated each term in Student Activities each term and must be carried when on campus. This card has many uses such as the campus library, facilities and labs, free transportation on Augusta public busses, and provides free admission to most ASU plays, Lyceum Programs, films and home athletic games.

You must have an ASU parking sticker displayed on your car to park on campus which can be purchased in the Public Safety Department.

For textbook purchases, visit the ASU Bookstore located in Washington Hall on the first floor. During the first week of classes the bookstore has extended hours and offers online services as well (see Campus Pipeline). Also, a used book exchange operates in the Washington Hall lobby. If you expect an A CCEL book reimbursement, watch your Pipeline account for pick up dates once the term has begun.
