2008 Georgia State Tournament(12 Mar 08) 29 March 2008 Augusta State University General Information High School Sign-ups (completed - read only) Middle School Sign-ups (completed - read only) Tentative State Schedules: (ongoing room changes; time is etched in stone! 14 March 2008) Food Information (16 Feb 2008) Campus address: 2500 Walton Way Augusta 30904 Fieldhouse: 3109 Marvin Vanover Dr. Augusta 30909 1. We have a tradition of starting events at EXACTLY THE SCHEDULED TIME. Things will be no different this year. Events also finish on time.(ie.45.2987 to49.2874 minutes for most events). This fact means that students will have 15 minutes between back to back events. My event supervisors assemble quality events that push and challenge students in an age-appropriate manner. And many, like myself, like to reward students for thinking outside the box, so expect some aspects of the unexpected but within the rules. In addition, some of the other best event supervisors from around the state will be involved as well. Most es have been doing their events or related events since ASU started hosting an Olympiad in 1999.Calculations are a big part of science, so expect almost every event to have at least one calculation and/or graph/table. AND REMEMBER SIGNIFICANT FIGURES ARE IMPORTANT, AND MOST NUMBERS HAVE UNITS!!!. 2. For sign up events, the time signed up for is the time that STUDENTS MUST START THE EVENT. If preparation or setup is required, students should arrive before the sign up time. For example, a time of 11:10 for Tower or Boomilever indicates this is time that the device will be placed on testing hopper. Weighing etc must be done before this time. SOUNDS OF MUSIC SPECIFICS COMING BY 17 MARCH 3. For walk-in events, students must arrive no later than 30 minutes before the closing of the event. For flying (crashing?)events, NO test flights may be done during the last 30 minutes of the time block. 4. Not all device events will have an impound, especially towers and boomilevers. 5. Augusta State does not have a Gymansium on campus. We will use the gyms in St. Mary's (directly across the street from Allgood Hall) and in Episcopal Day School (less than a 10 minute walk from the 3rd floor of University Hall down Walton Way. Detailed directions and dimensions will appear here later. Different events will be held at the same time in different parts of the gyms. 6. Attachment of crisp, unmarked bills of denomination $417.00 or $333.21 to tests/devices will insure the tests are fairly graded/scored. The placement of similar bills in the SBTA cans that will be scattered around campus will also insure that your teams scores are totaled correctly in the overall standing. 7. For driving directions, click here. Augusta, like most cities with interstates, is undergoing some major road construction. Allow yourself extra time. Specific details will appear later as the lane closings etc. vary from day to day and from pico second to pico second. 8. Some area motels that have agreed to hold blocks of rooms or provide a guaranteed rate can be found here. The blocks of rooms will be held only until March 13, 2008 and any unreserved rooms will be released to the public. 9. The Award ceremony will be held at the Christneberry Field House, about 2.2 miles from campus on Wrightsboro Rd. Directions to the filed house may be found on the directions page and will also be included in team packets at registration. At the end of the award ceremony, each team will receive an envelope containing: a. Most if not all of the written tests. The intent of returning tests is one of a teaching tool, not of grade questioning. b. A final score sheet. ac. Ribbons earned in all events for places 5-10. d. Certificates for all students and coaches. e. Envelopes for SBTA. 10. Base camps will be on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Allgood and University Halls. Some teams may be sharing a base camp with another team. Last year, the students in my honors class, armed with clip boards, stop watches, and various places to go to and from, collected times from place to place . Longest times ranged between 7:23.39 min and 8:49.19 min 11. A campus map may be found here. Enlarge the map by clicking on the icon that appears in the lower right corner or simply click on to enlarge map. 12. Campus food services will have personal pizzas available for preordering. In addition, the student the bookstore will probably be open from 11:23 to 1:37. Food service itself will not be open with the exception of Starbucks and Freshen smoothies. Food services is located on the first floor of the Student Activity Center. 13. We will provide each team with 17 T-shirts; extra shirts will be $10.00/shirt. Shirts must also be preordered; very few extra shirts will be available the day of the event. 14. As of 3:17 pm, 4 March 2008, Georgia will be able to send two teams from each division to the national. I do not expect any change between now and the next three weeks. 15. NOTE: BOTH ALLGOOD AND SCIENCE HAVE ROOMS WITH THE SAME NUMBER BUT DIFFERENT PREFICES. IN EACH CASE, THE EAST WING OF THE BUILDING IS THE LARGER WING. BE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO E/W IN SCIENCE AND E/N IN ALLGOOD.
