OLYMPIAD WORKSHOPS

Various workshops are scheduled to provide coaches with event specific information. A key part of most workshops will be hands-on involvement and the actual performing of many events. The workshops provide a great way to share information from experienced coaches and event supervisors. Certificates of attendance will be provided and teachers may be eligible for Professional Development Units.

These workshops fall into a number of different categories:

  1. 3-7 hour workshops held in various place around the state. These workshops will deal with general aspects of coaching an olympiad team and a brief discussion of most or all events in both B and C. Division. Usually 2-4 people will be involved in providing information about all events. Presently there is no fee for the workshop
  2. Week long workshops : intense workshops sometimes involving 2-3 hours for some events. The National Organization runs one such workshop each year in July in Arizona.
  3. Video broadcasts of training for some events:  in the developmental stages. Stay tuned. With cooperation of Georgia Public Broadcast, streaming videos may be produced. Access will be restricted to GA coaches.
  4. Event specific workshops: some individuals around the state in the past have held event specific workshops at a school. These workshops vary in length from 2 to 6 hours.
    1. Dodgen Middle School Student Coach Workshop, October 30, 2010; Road Scholar, Disease Detectives, Fossils, Water Bottle Rocket, and Ornithology are confirmed sessions. Other events will be added if coach/instructors volunteer (Contact Kathy Jacobson to volunteer).
