Graduate Council Minutes
Dr. Fissel call meeting to order at 3:35 pm. The minutes of the previous meeting, which had been distributed electronically, were corrected and approved.
The current draft of the document outlining the Mission, Goals and Processes of the restored Graduate Council, was distributed.
Program review issues were raised and a general discussion followed.
Consensus on the annual review of documentation and procedures was solicited. Discussion ensued.
Goal 3 of the proposal for a restored Graduate Council was discussed. It was resolved to re-word Goal 3 to read:
To review and make recommendations or modifications to policies and procedures in a manner benefitting all University graduate programs.
Process 2.3 of the above - mentioned document was discussed. It was resolved to re-word Process 2.3 to read:
- graduate degree completion and student retention rates.
Graduate Program policy oversight, and what body (or bodies) should bear that responsibility, were the subjects of some discussion.
The Graduate Council's relationship with the University Council was explored. A process by which the Graduate Council, the Academic Policies Committee, and the University Council would be included in programmatic and curricular oversight was sketched out.
Discussion of the ASU governance flowchart considered how a restored Graduate Council would fit into the framework of university governance.
Changes proposed to be made in the Graduate Council's Mission will necessitate further discussion concerning governance. After a decision is made, one would have to produce a revised flowchart.
The Council meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm.
